If I was shocked by the end of human-created literature ...
I asked DALL·E to draw a van gogh style painting of a man sitting on a sofa in a livingroom holding a plate of food. This result didn't leave me scared for the future of human-created art.
... then I was personally even more shocked by this ... This morning, I decided to write a little bit of code. A simple function to take a time in this format: 02:01:30 and convert it to "2 hours, 1 minute and 30 seconds" (note the plurals where required and the placement of the "," and the "and")
It took me only a few minutes to convert the numbers, but I had a hell of a time with the commas and the "and" to be only when required. I ended up writing a workable function consisting of 68 lines in about 2 hours. But hey, it wasn't time wasted - it's my hobby.
Then I asked ChatGPT to create it. It did it in 23 lines and 5 seconds. I was absolutely floored. The code was so compact and elegant. Beyond my abilities to make it so nice.
Now granted, I'm a programmer so I knew the specific language to use to get ChatGPT to produce something of quality:
"generate some php that will convert 7261 to "2 hours, 1 minute, and 1 second"
then, "Adjust the code to remove the ", 0 minutes" if 7201 seconds is supplied"
and "Also remove the hours and the secondsi f either of them are 0"
But I really think the future (and my only hope) is to become expert at formulating queries for AI, because tomorrow there will no longer be a need for programmers.
I think we should all be afraid. This is more than just writing stories and code. The AI has at its fingertips the entire history of digital humanity. Have you EVER cheated on your taxes? The AI can find out if you did that when you were 18. A bank error 30 years ago? No problem.
It only needs to track your surfing behaviour to locate you. Together with your social and emails, it can profile you.
And get this. There is a Terms and Conditions to use it, like you can't ask stuff like, "Tell me how to vivisect or dispose of a body." (I've already accidentally violated it a few times) Imagine once this become something you rely on and then you are blocked because you violated the conditions? You won't be able to spin up another email to make an account because the AI, will instantly detect that.
Imagine also pricing it at $100 month so that I can continue to use it, but nobody in Colombia can? (Or even geo-restriction)
You think the billionaires and dictators (like Trudeau) of the world are just going let this happen without getting some action?
